Στα προκριματικά των 800μ ελεύθερο του Παγκοσμίου Πρωταθλήματος ο Δημήτρης Μάρκος έκανε χρόνο 8.00.08 και τερμάτισε στην 16η θέση. Με αυτή την επίδοση ο νεαρός κολυμβητής δεν κατάφερε να προκριθεί στον τελικό.
Η επίδοση αυτή για το Έλληνα Πρωταθλητή δεν ήταν ατομικό ρεκόρ, συνιστά όμως την καλύτερη φετινή του επίδοση.
Πρώτος βγήκε ο Ουκρανός Μικαϊλο Ρόμαντσουκ με 7:44.75.
